Historic Rosehill

"Rosehill" was the name given to the property situated on the Eastern bank of the majestic Noosa River, some 8km up-stream from the river mouth.  The land was first purchased from the Colony of Queensland on the 5th of January 1887.  The Title Deed was signed by the then Governor, Sir Anthony Musgrave.

The homestead itself was built circa 1896, and is a very fine example of Queenslander vernacular architecture.  The design for Rosehill was a popular choice for country areas of the state - embracing an elevated, square floorplan with wide verandahs to the full perimeter, and a giant pyramid roof as its 'cap'.  12.2 m square (40 feet), the layout is most effective for the lifestyle and climatic conditions of Queenslanders generally - both then and now.  Timber used in its construction was 'recycled' having been previously part of a 'barn' that once stood in the neighbouring Shire of Gympie.
